NASS Applauds Senate Appropriations Committee
NASS Applauds Senate Appropriations Committee Fiscal Year 2018 Federal BudgetSeptember 2017 - Printable Version
Tom Armelino, Executive Director of the National Association of School Superintendents issued the following statement in response to the Senate Appropriations Committee’s approval of the Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies spending bill for fiscal year 2018:
“NASS welcomes the Senate Appropriations Committee’s decision to invest in the nation’s educators by protecting Title II.” The Every Student Succeeds Act rightly extended the federal commitment to professional development for teachers and leaders and every State ESSA plan recognizes the importance of this investment in public education’s future. “The administration’s proposal to eliminate the program was shortsighted and counter-productive.”
“Promoting educational equity begins supporting teachers, by equipping them with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed. NASS also applauds the committee’s recognition that learning begins long before kindergarten by continuing funding for the vitally important Preschool Development Grants program.”
